Wando and Legend
Wando High School
Wando High School is the largest public school in South Carolina. Located in Mount Pleasant, SC, Wando has served as the town’s sole public high school from 1973 until 2020 when Lucy Beckham High School opened.
Wando currently serves over 2,900 students. Although Mount Pleasant often has a reputation as an affluent community, nearly 20 percent of Wando students live in poverty. The Yellow Shoes Foundation aims to assist these students and their families.
More information about Wando High School can be found HERE.
Although the Yellow Shoes Foundation works to assist Wando families in need, the organization is not officially affiliated with Wando High School or the Charleston County School District.
Legend Yearbook
Legend is Wando High School’s yearbook program, and was Faith’s favorite home during her time at Wando. The staff currently consists of 37 students. Due to Wando’s size, Legend has been one of the largest yearbook’s in the Southeast and one of the best-selling. In terms of state and regional awards, Legend has been the most award-winning yearbook for the past eight years.
The Legend staff travels throughout the year to a variety of scholastic journalism conferences hosted across the nation. Some staff members struggle to afford the cost of these trips. The Yellow Shoes Foundation works to foot the bill for these students so they have the same educational opportunities as other fellow staff members, just as Faith would have wanted for her own staff members.
